ESCMID Local Champions

We take great pride in recognising and celebrating the contributions of our Champions, whose dedication and expertise have significantly impacted the Clinical Microbiology (CM) and Infectious Diseases (ID) landscapes.

About

Our local Champions are enthusiastic advocates for ESCMID, and are encouraged to:

  • Advertise ESCMID at local events and conferences.
  • Explain benefits and encourage membership of ESCMID.
  • Help co-ordinate and advertise ESCMID educational and scientific events in their region.
  • Support advertising of ESCMID meetings, particularly encouraging attendance at ESCMID Global.
  • Encourage application and disseminate information on ESCMID grants and professional opportunities including those aimed at young investigators, particularly those available to resource-limited countries.
  • Help to advertise locally ESCMID’s opportunities such as Observerships and Career Grant.
  • Encourage applications to positions opening in ESCMID Study Groups and other ESCMID committees.
  • Mediate and strengthen ESCMID’s message in various fields such those related to AMR, and emerging infections.
  • Become ESCMID Global abstract reviewers.

Privileges

Discover the benefits of being a Champion:

  • Suggest potential speakers/chairs for ESCMID Global, providing names and areas of interest (the ultimate decision is made by the EPC and ESCMID Global Programme Director), especially from underrepresented regions such as Eastern Europe and LMICs in general.
  • Suggest colleagues who could be added to the ESCMID reviewer’s database.
  • Proposing training needs so ESCMID can develop curricula for educational courses.
  • Recognition pin or patch at ESCMID Global.

Terms and selection

The ESCMID EC takes extra care in selecting local Champions based on their international outreach, Society involvement, and contributions to the field (research, education, policy, etc.).

ESCMID local champions are appointed for one term of 3 years (not renewable).
