ESCMID supports the creation and distribution of carefully crafted, evidence-based guidance documents aimed to strengthen best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of Infectious Diseases (ID).


Open call for guidelines projects 

The deadline for project submission is 30 May 2026. 

The ESCMID Guidelines Subcommittee invites ESCMID members and ESCMID Study Groups to submit proposals for clinical practice guidelines projects on the following topics: 

  • Management of intravascular catheter infections
  • MALDI-TOF and machine learning for AMR detection and bacterial typing
  • Viral infections in immunocompromised patients
  • Infection prevention in Candida auris (acute and long-term care)
  • Guideline for the vaccination of healthcare workers against respiratory pathogens

Topics for guidelines should cover broad areas, where the applicant is expected to propose scope and focus, balancing feasibility and comprehensiveness. To submit your proposal, please refer to the instructions and submission template provided below.

To reach this result, ESCMID is committed to always selecting cutting-edge topics, employing an independent and robust methodology, and carefully monitor conflict of interest of panel members. In pursuit of excellence, all ESCMID guidelines projects follow strict procedures for evidence appraisal and data extraction, with the help of a dedicated group of well-trained young professionals, the Evidence Review Group (ERG). Details on the operational procedures of the ESCMID guidelines programme are reported in our manual.
