ESGEM Awards

The ESCMID Study Group for Epidemiological Markers (ESGEM) wishes to recognise excellence and innovation among the ESGEM community. These distinguished award winners will have the opportunity to deliver a lecture during a dedicated IMMEM session. All ESCMID members with an interest in epidemiological markers are eligible to join ESGEM.

Who can be nominated

Current or past ESGEM members who have experience as senior investigators or clinicians are invited for nomination. Please note that self-nominations are not allowed and that members of the ESGEM Executive Committee (EC) are not eligible during during their term in office.

Nomination process

Please provide the following documentation: 

  • A short motivation letter outlining candidates major contribution to ESGEM’s objectives, up to 250 words
  • Two support letters from ESGEM members

Selection and notification

The awardee is carefully selected by the ESGEM EC. Notification is sent to the awardee before IMMEM. At IMMEM, the ESGEM Chair will shine a light on the winner and present the prestigious award. The awardee will have the chance to give a 25 min lecture of their choice in a special dedicated IMMEM session.

Who can apply

We encourage applications from members who meet any of the below criteria to apply: 

  • ESGEM members whose research is based on the topics of interest to the SG
  • PhDs with at least three years of postdoc experience, but no longer than eight years* post-graduation
  • MDs with at least three years of postdoc or clinical experience, but no longer than five years* from completion of clinical training/specialist 

*This time excludes maternity/paternity leave time (one year for each child), and health-related leave if applicable.

Application process

Please provide the following documentation: 

  • A short CV including a personal statement, the description of research interests and projects, and a listof top publications with three first author publications.
  • A copy of your highest degree (in English)
  • A colour photograph (.tiff, .eps or .jpg; max. 4MB), at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution for publication

Handpicked by the ESGEM EC, the awardee will be notified of their selection before IMMEM. The awardee will have the chance to give a 25 min lecture of their choice in a special dedicated IMMEM session.
