Aims and objectives
The ESCMID Study Group on Mobile Elements And Plasmids (ESGMAP) serves as a reference and coordinating group within ESCMID, dedicated to advancing research, detection, and control of mobile elements and plasmids. These elements are fundamental drivers of antimicrobial resistance, virulence, and bacterial evolution, influencing microbial populations in clinical, environmental, and agricultural settings.
ESGMAP is committed to:
- Encouraging, supporting, and conducting research on mobile genetic elements and plasmids to better understand their role in antimicrobial resistance, virulence, and horizontal gene transfer.
- Enhancing detection and surveillance through advanced sequencing technologies, bioinformatics, and standardized methodologies.
- Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration among microbiologists, epidemiologists, bioinformaticians, and public health specialists to develop innovative solutions.
- Promoting education and knowledge exchange through training, workshops, and mentorship to equip researchers and healthcare professionals with the latest advancements.
