In the face of escalating antimicrobial resistance, it has become imperative for healthcare professionals to stay updated on the latest developments in antibiotic therapy and antimicrobial stewardship. This course aims to provide participants with comprehensive insights into the relationship between antimicrobial use and resistance, appropriate antimicrobial therapy regimens, interventions to combat resistance, and the role of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP) in addressing this global health threat. 

Intended audience: 

Medical doctors and pharmacists, nurses or other healthcare professionals with an MSc or PhD are eligible, provided they completed the basic module or have experience in IPC 

Objectives: 

  • To provide participants with the latest update on resistance epidemiology and new insights into relationship between antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance. 
  • To provide participants with an overview of appropriate antimicrobial therapy regimens for common infectious diseases. 
  • To provide participants with an overview of interventions to reduce antimicrobial resistance. 
  • To provide participants with overview of antimicrobial stewardship programmes (ASP), their mission and goals as well as role of various stakeholders. 
  • To discuss multidisciplinary strategies of ASP. 
  • To provide participants with and insight into the role of information technology in ASP. 
  • To give the participants the opportunity to discuss limitations of ASP, barriers to implementation in local environment.
