Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) in migration- and travel-associated infections

Event Description

Processes of globalisation and climate change have far reaching consequences, which affect medical care worldwide. Steadily rising temperatures and climate change-induced natural disasters lead to changing mobility patterns and migration movements of refugees. Furthermore, infectious diseases may become prevalent in regions that have not been affected previously. Antimicrobial stewardship, especially for migration- and travel-associated infections, should therefore be taught with a global and holistic perspective, taking medical, political, and cultural factors into account.

Intended audience:

Healthcare professionals and practitioners who are involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of infectious diseases, particularly those related to migration, travel, and global health.

Objectives:

The aims of the course are to (i) enable participants to diagnose and classify infectious diseases in the context of travel and migration, (ii) develop diagnostic strategies and treatment options for selected travel- and migration associated infections, and (iii) apply the AMS concept specifically to health problems associated with migration, One Health and climate change.
