Automation and digitalization is becoming increasingly important in daily infection prevention practice and has applications both in daily workflow as well as in surveillance of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) and outbreak detection. This course offers participants the knowledge necessary to conceptualize and implement automated surveillance and other digital solutions. The participants will participate actively to translate theoretical knowledge into feasible project ideas. 

Intended audience: 

Medical doctors and pharmacists, nurses or other healthcare professionals with an MSc or PhD are eligible, provided they completed the basic module or have experience in IPC 

Objectives: 

At the end of this course, the participants will:

  • Have a deeper understanding of the principles of automated surveillance of healthcare-associated infections and automated outbreak detection systems
  • Understand general concepts of data interoperability.
  • Have knowledge of relevant regulations and quality requirements applicable to automated surveillance software solutions (incl. governance, legal aspects, privacy, MDR)
  • Be aware of different strategies of automated surveillance implementation.
  • Understand key concepts in the field of artificial intelligence.
  • Have the epidemiological knowledge necessary to interpret the outcomes of surveillance systems. 
  • Be able to design automated surveillance solutions and draft a project plan

Course organisers will monitor attendance. Only participants attending live sessions will be able to receive the certification.
