ESCMID supports the creation and distribution of carefully crafted, evidence-based guidance documents aimed to strengthen best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of Infectious Diseases (ID).

Vision

ESCMID has a forward-thinking vision to provide strong support to professionals practising within the fields of Clinical Microbiology (CM), Infection Control (IC), and ID. With the help of the ESCMID Guideline Subcommittee and the ESCMID Evidence Review Group, ESCMID selects cutting-edge topics, employs an independent and robust methodology, and embraces a global perspective. In pursuit of excellence, the Guidelines Subcommittee is proud to follow procedures for evidence appraisal and data extraction orchestrated by a dedicated group of well-trained Young Science Members (YSM). Panel members are handpicked to monitor any potential conflicts of interest.

Call for panel members of ESCMID guidelines projects in 2025-2026

ESCMID is seeking candidates willing to serve on the panels which will develop the clinical practice guidelines for the following projects:

  1. ESCMID rapid guidelines on mpox. NEW!
  2. Infection Control Strategies and Interventions to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia in adult patients.
  3. Selection and duration of antibiotic treatment in Infectious Aortitis (IA) and Vascular Graft and Endograft Infections (VGEI).
  4. Nomenclature, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic Q fever.  
  5. The update of the 2021 European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Guidelines for the Treatment of Infections Caused by Multidrug-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacilli. 

Project 1 is scheduled to start as soon as possible and application deadline is 9 October 2024. 

Projects 2-5 are expected to start early 2025. and the deadline to apply is 1 October 2024.
