Training

ESCMID is committed to training and involving new and young members in the ESCMID guidelines programme, to ensure, through their essential support, efficient and relevant production of guidance, fit to the increasingly important global role of ESCMID in the field of infectious diseases, clinical microbiology and infection control.

Online course

ESCMID provides access to the online McMaster/Cochrane GRADE Online Learning Modules which are a useful resource for developing guidelines and performing systematic reviews. Watching the modules is highly recommended for all ESCMID guidelines' project panel members (including members of other societies and patient representatives).

Onsite course

The ESCMID Guidelines Subcommittee organises a yearly onsite training course, consisting of both interactive lectures and practical exercises covering all steps of guidelines production, with a main focus on systematic reviews, meta-analyses and the GRADE approach.

Participants are selected through an open call, based on their background, motivation and experience. The course is free of charge, but successful participants commit formally to be available in future ESCMID guideline projects (abstract screening, full-text screening and data extraction). Each trained participant will be asked to participate to a maximum 1 project per year, in the 5 years following their training. Participation will entail authorship in the final publication.
