Together with the European Committee on Infection Control (EUCIC), the ESCMID Guidelines Director and Guidelines Officer drive the development and update of guidance documents for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). Through a dedicated Working Group, EUCIC integrates cutting-edge scientific evidence into healthcare practice to reduce hospital-acquired infections (HAI) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and strengthen the overall foundations of healthcare systems.
Multidisciplinary stewardship is essential to tackle HAI and AMR challenges. These guidance documents are designed to drive changes by intertwining effective infection prevention measures with diagnostic precision and antibiotic policy. EUCIC's mission includes ensuring the availability and accessibility of guidance documents, providing regular updates to existing guidelines, facilitating the development of a standardised infection prevention lexicon across Europe, and evaluating implementation strategies considering local needs and resources.
To help you with this challenge, the EUCIC Guidance Working Group has put together the EUCIC Series, a collection of guidance documents that serve as pillars of support for the IPC community, encompassing FAQs, technical documents, assessment frameworks, consensus papers, and white papers. Following a consultation with EUCIC members in 2023, the roadmap for new guidance documents is ready to address emerging challenges with foresight and precision.

EUCIC members regularly create guidance documents alongside key stakeholders invested in infection control, AMR, and preventive measures. Partnerships with esteemed institutions like the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), World Health Organization (WHO) Europe, the Hospital Infection Society, and others from the EUCIC Stakeholder Board enrich the collective efforts in this field.
