ESCMID Global Support

ESCMID works to support and encourage researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals from all corners of the globe to participate and experience the rewards of attending ESCMID Global. Every year, ESCMID offers a variety of grants and awards tailored specifically for this unique event.

Funding

The travel grant includes a free ESCMID Global onsite registration and a pre-paid credit card worth 500 CHF. It is important to note that the travel allowance is exclusively available to awardees who participate onsite and will be distributed during the Young Scientist Reception at ESCMID Global. If awardees cannot join us onsite, they can still benefit from the free registration. 


Who can apply

ESCMID welcomes your application for a travel grant if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are an ESCMID YSM (valid membership acquired before 4 January 2025, 12:00 CET)* 
  • You are an ESCMID YSM from a low- and lower-middle-income country (LMIC)* 
  • You have submitted an abstract for ESCMID Global and are a presenting author

*Please note that you will be asked to provide your ESCMID membership number during the application process. 


Selection and notification

Recipients of the ESCMID Global travel grant are presenting authors of the highest-rated, accepted abstracts who have applied for the grant during the abstract submission process. The names of successful applicants may be showcased on the ESCMID Global official website and in other ESCMID publications, highlighting their outstanding achievements and contributions to the Society and the scientific community as a whole.

Funding

ESCMID Global Outreach Grants cover the congress registration fee and offer a substantial travel allowance of up to 1.3K CHF, to help offset the travel and accommodation costs of attending ESCMID Global onsite. It is important to note that the travel allowance is exclusively available to awardees who participate onsite and will be distributed during the Young Scientist Reception at ESCMID Global. If awardees cannot join us onsite, they can still benefit from the free registration.


Who can apply

ESCMID encourages you to apply for an Outreach Grant if you meet the below criteria:

  • You live and work in an LMIC
  • You submitted an abstract or case study during the regular ESCMID Global abstract submission call
  • You are either a presenter or co-author of a submitted ESCMID Global abstract, regardless of whether the abstract is accepted for the programme

Application process

Each year, applications for outreach grants are welcomed during regular abstract submission as part of the abstract submission process.


Selection and notification

Grant applications will undergo careful evaluation by the ESCMID team. Notifications regarding the outcome of the grant selection process are sent in January. For those selected as a grant recipient, your name may be showcased on the ESCMID Global official website and featured in esteemed ESCMID publications, highlighting the remarkable achievements and contributions of grant recipients to the Clinical Microbiology (CM) and Infectious Diseases (ID) community.

  • You live and work in an LMIC
  • You are an ESCMID LMIC Member

Application process

Applications can be made through the link on this webpage while the call for applications is open. Applicant must submit a short motivational letter (up to 500 words) and proof of residence in LMIC.

Selection and notification

Grant applications will undergo an eligibility check, followed by the ESCMID internal committee selection. Notifications regarding the outcome of the grant selection will be sent at the end of November 2024. For those selected as grant recipients, your name may be showcased on the ESCMID Global official website.

Funding

Upon being selected as the deserving recipient of the ISF/ESCMID Sepsis Aware, the ISF will arrange for the 500 USD prize to be sent via secure wire transfer directly to the bank account details provided by the awardee.


Who can apply

To be considered for this prestigious award, anyone with a sepsis-related ESCMID Global abstract, who is also a presenting author, may apply. Interested applicants should tick the related ISF/ESCMID Sepsis award box during abstract submission to indicate their interest in being recognised. 


Selection and notification

This prestigious nomination is granted to the presenter of the highest-rated sepsis-related ESCMID Global abstract submission. Chosen by the ISF steering committee, the award recipient is presented during a symposium jointly hosted by ISF and the ESCMID Global programme committee. The awardee must be present in person to accept this award. After the ceremony, the winner will be asked to deliver a short oral presentation highlighting their ground-breaking, award-winning research.The awardee’s name and the project title will be published in the ESCMID Global final programme, the ESCMID yearbook, and the ESCMID website to spotlight the work and inspire others. Applications for this opportunity are integrated into the abstract submission process for ESCMID Global each year.

Funding

The ESGEM travel grants are a flat payment of 750 EUR to support successful applicants with the costs of attending ESCMID Global onsite which can include accommodation, travel or registration. 


Who can apply

The eligibility criteria are the following:

  • Onsite participation is required
  • The applicant must be an ESCMID Young Scientist member
  • The applicant must be the presenting author of an accepted abstract
  • The applicant must be an ESGEM member and the topic of the research needs to fit within the topic “Epidemiological markers and typing”

Application process

Applications will be ranked according to the score of the accepted abstract, a motivation letter (explaining how the work aligns with ESGEM mission and how the grant supports attendance) and applicant’s provenience (applications from LMICs will be prioritised).

Please apply through the linked form until 30 November 2024. Only one application per participant is accepted and each applicant can only receive one ESCMID or one ESGEM travel grant.


Selection and notification

Abstracts will only be ranked after acceptance by the ESCMID Office. Applicants will be informed by email and this information will be disclosed through ESCMID and ESGEM channels. Applicants need to acknowledge ESGEM travel grant in the poster or oral presentation.
